See highlights of Preptech's Championship winning season HERE...don't forget to hit "Like"! September 2011 - PREPTECH AND OLIVER BARNARD CROWNED 2011 MGCC TROPHY CHAMPIONS Preptech's Oliver Barnard had a nail biting time on Saturday 10th September waiting at home for his wife, Henrietta, to go into labour whilst his rivals made the trip to Scotland for the last two rounds of the MG Car Club Trophy Championship. Oliver had already done enough to win his class with his superb and consistent form this season, but the overall Championship winner would not be known until after the two rounds taking place at Knockhill Race Circuit. The final outcome was that Oliver was declared the 2011 MG Car Club Trophy Champion, winning the championship by 2 points! A relieved Oliver said "it was a shame that I had to sit out the last two rounds but with our first baby due at any time I couldn't risk being 450 miles away. I watched what I could of the races on the Knockhill webcam but without knowing the lap times I still had no idea what the final outcome was until I received a telephone call from Knockhill congratulating me. It's been a great season and I've had some fantastic support. I'm planning a year off now, although I think I may try and do a guest drive at MG Live! at Silverstone, but I aim to be back in 2013 and hope to be driving the new MG3 hatchback that is being launched shortly". August 2011 - 2011 MGCC TROPHY CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUNDS 9/10, DONINGTON Preptech's Oliver Barnard made the trip to Donington Race Circuit over the Bank Holiday weekend to compete in rounds 9 and 10 of the MG Car Club Trophy Championship. Oliver carried a 16 point lead in the Championship from the previous rounds and was looking to gain maximum points at Donington to assist his title hopes. Qualifying took part on a chilly but dry track and Oliver didn't disappoint - taking pole position for both races, despite struggling with handling on the unfamiliar circuit. The first race, round 9, was preceded by a rain shower leaving all drivers undecided about tyre options but as the shower eased all cars went to the grid on dry tyres. Oliver got off to a good start and for the first couple of laps was followed closely by second place man, Andy Campbell. Once Andy's tyres started to go off Oliver opened up a 5 second gap over the next few laps until a safety car was deployed, causing the cars to group up and Oliver to lose the advantage he had gained. The safety car pulled off with two laps remaining and, with it all to do again, Oliver made a good start and finished the race 3 seconds ahead and with a new lap record under his belt. The second race took place later in the day and the sun had come out and the track was warmer, promising some good racing. Oliver was quick away from pole position and drove an untroubled race finishing just over 10 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. In the process he also managed to better his lap record from earlier in the day. With the points awarded from Donington Oliver is now confirmed as class champion and is well placed to take the overall championship with a 23 point lead but the final two rounds are due to take place at Knockhill, in Scotland, on 10th September and Oliver's wife, Henrietta, is due to have their first baby on 15th September! Oliver commented: "We had a great weekend at Donington. I found the track a bit difficult during qualifying but finally managed a couple of decent laps. We made some adjustments to the set up for the race to improve handling. The track was a bit slippery for the first race but it made for some exciting racing, however it was perfect for the second race and the car performed well. Two poles, two wins and two lap records was a great outcome. I'm a gnat's whisker away from winning the Championship but everything is hinging on the final two rounds at Knockhill, which I may not be attending due to the imminent birth of our child". July 2011 - 2011 MGCC TROPHY CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUNDS 7/8, CROFT Farnborough's Oliver Barnard came away from the North Yorkshire circuit with a full house of points after enjoying a fantastic weekend of racing! Croft Circuit hosted the MG Car Club Trophy Championship, rounds 7 and 8, over the weekend and produced some great weather for the meeting. Oliver travelled to Croft with a 5 point lead in the championship and looking for some good results. He was not disappointed, qualifying on pole for both race and 2 seconds faster than his nearest rival. The first race took place on Saturday with Oliver getting a great start and by the end of the first lap he had already opened up a 2 second gap. He continued to lead and won the race by over 7 seconds with his MG ZR160 not missing a beat and setting a new lap record in the process. Race 2, on Sunday, saw a repeat of Saturday's race with Oliver sprinting away from his rivals and opening up a huge lead, eventually winning the race by over 14 seconds and beating his lap record from the previous day by 1 second. Oliver's lead in the championship has now increased to 16 points. Oliver commented - "What a great weekend! This was my first visit to Croft and the first time I drove on the track was for qualifying so I had to learn it quickly. The weather was kind to us too which certainly helped. The car couldn't have performed better and suffered no damage so we've an easy month now until Donnington on August Bank Holiday. It's good to have increased my championship lead but with 4 rounds to go there is still a lot to do to win the title". June 2011 - 2011 MGCC TROPHY CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUNDS 5/6, SILVERSTONE Preptech's cars were in action at Silverstone over the weekend (24, 25 and 26 June) when the MGCC Trophy Championship was the feature race of the world's biggest MG gathering - MGLive! 2011. The cars were, for the first time, competing on the newly constructed Arena grand prix circuit. Qualifying on Saturday saw Preptech driver Oliver Barnard take pole position for both races. The races themselves involved several different classes running together with grids of 40 plus cars. Oliver managed a great start in race 1 and soon opened up a gap of 4 car lengths on his nearest rival, however another car competing in a different class struck Oliver's car and caused him to do a 360 degree spin whilst travelling at around 100mph! Oliver recovered the car and set off after the field, managing to climb back to 2nd place before the safety car was deployed and he was frustratingly forced to remain in this position until the end of the race. Race 2 took place on a hot track on Sunday and was a repeat of race 1, without the incident, with Oliver opening up a large gap very quickly. A comfortable race win followed, beating 2nd place man by 9.5 seconds and setting a new lap record in the process. To top the day off, Oliver was invited to join fellow Preptech racer, Ben Jacques, in a factory built MG ZR 190 race car – the last built by MG Motorsport – in a 45 minute two driver race. Ben and Oliver qualified in 6th place. The racing was very exciting, with the added drama of driver changes. Ben took the first stint and managed to get the car up to 4th before handing over the driving seat to Oliver, who went on to gain 2nd position. In addition, Ben and Oliver were voted drivers of the race by the Silverstone commentary team for their fantastic efforts. Oliver commented on the weekend: "it was great to be racing on the new circuit and very demanding. It was unfortunate that our efforts on Saturday were affected by an accident, but at least we escaped major damage. Sunday was a great day and we were able to show our true pace. The weekend only got better when Ben asked me to drive his car in the two driver challenge. This was my first time in a factory built race car competing on slicks and I was really pleased with the results – a great day for Ben too, who sadly announced his retirement from racing after the event". The MG Trophy Championship moves on to Croft next month. &index_img1=images/index1.jpg& &index_img2=images/index2.jpg& ///////////// Second Page //////////// &second_title1=Chassis Modification/Strengthening and Bespoke Fabrication &second_txt1=Preptech can offer varying forms of chassis modification, whether in the form of simple seam welding or complete redesign of some chassis components to aid performance or to allow room for other components to fit. With some consultation we can also help with strengthening your car, perhaps a custom strut brace or additional roll cage bars? Often in car preparation you stumble upon complications whereby you require a design and fabrication solution. Whether it's bias box mounting, door cards, transmission tunnel modification or seat mounting bars, we can cater for varying levels of fabrication. Please contact us to discuss the level of fabrication you require. &second_title2=Race Seat/Harness and Roll Cage Installation &second_txt2=Safety should never be comprised. The most important components of a competition car build are the protection cell (roll cage) and also very importantly the seat you are sat in. Lots of club level racers often unknowingly install seats themselves in a dangerous manner. At Preptech we spend the time to make sure that a seat is not only mounted safely and professionally but that it is comfortable for the driver. We are also keen to make sure that you have the right harness to suit your application. At Preptech we offer bespoke roll cage fitment for all types of applications. We can offer a MIG welded installation of both bolt in cages and large specification "weld in" cages. Roll cages vary in fitting time from 6 hours to 60 hours and we strive to provide solutions that suit your needs. We can also supply roll cages for customers, often at very competitive prices. Please enquire for more information. &second_title3=Engine Building and Brake/Suspension Upgrades &second_txt3=We offer a range of engine building solutions. Whether a "simple" head rebuild or a full rebuild including extraction and installation. We are prepared to arrange collection and delivery of your engine. We can work within sporting regulations to gain as much performance as possible from your engine. In most saloon car race series the cars stem from current or previous road cars that simply are not built to withstand the rigours of the race track. We can offer advice on application, purchasing, installation and set-up of aftermarket race ready brake and suspension solutions. Quite often when building a new track or race vehicle it takes track time and set-up work to discover the optimum damper and spring combinations to suit all driving conditions. Similarly, road car brakes are not designed to cope with the stresses and strains of the constant acceleration and deceleration experienced by a car on the track. We offer simple solutions from uprated brake lines and pads through to full brake conversions with bias control systems - why not contact us to see how we can help you improve this highly important and yet often overlooked area of your race vehicle? &second_img1=images/second1.jpg& &second_img2=images/second2.jpg& &second_img3=images/second3.jpg& ///////////// Third Page //////////// &third_title1=Preptech Motorsport Consultancy Services &third_txt1=Race Car Build Consultancy
